RO WATER PURIFIER - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Does RO Water better than the municipal water supply?

Yes, Reverse Osmosis Process water is the better than municipal water supply for drinking. The quality of municipal water supply water is not consistent and the disinfection of the water supply is based on the free chlorine available.

The chlorine level required for disinfection is either not adequate or excess in the corporation supply thereby making the water unsafe for drinking. Also, it not treated for dissolved impurities removal.

Why RO operation require pressure?

The RO system filter through the membrane, passing Water through this membrane requires pressure, which is provided by the high-pressure pump.

Can an RO work on borewell water?

Yes, an RO system will work on borewell water provided that you do not have high levels of iron/arsenic in your water.

How can I know my drinking water is safe after you have installed the RO system?

The simple test for testing the water quality is checking of TDS, which is checked by the technician who is installing the RO at your premises since TDS is not the only parameter to be checked, you can get your water tested from good and certified labs as SGS and “Shriram Institute for Industrial Research”, at your own cost.

What is the difference between RO water and distilled water?

Reverse Osmosis Process water is having some amount of minerals whereas distilled water is completely deficit of the same. Hence distilled water taste very flat and no taste. Distilled water is not used for drinking, it used for laboratory testing, batteries, industrial processes, etc.

Why should I require a system of 10-15 Litter per Hour?

10-15 LPH is the minimum capacity of the RO water system, which is based on the RO membrane starts from 50 GPD and if the requirement of water is 20-40 liters per day, it will be fulfilled within 3-4 hours of operation of the RO system whole day which in turns improve the life of RO system.

What G.P.D.?

G.P.D. stands for Gallon per Day (1 Gallon = 3.785 ltrs.).

I am having scaling on the Water pots used for cooking?

This is because of the higher salt content of water being used, one it gets treated with RO system the hardness and salt will be reduced down to a level that will not create any scaling on the pots.

What are the AMC Charges for the RO system?

Normal AMC charges would be Rs. 850/-, which includes only labor charges and consumables will be replaced on actual cost, and cost for a comprehensive AMC would be Rs. 2400- 3300/- which includes the replacements of consumables and labor charges.

Since the cost of testing from good laboratories is high if you get all the parameter tested, you can get is checked for the microbial test or some other test which you feel is required to test other than TDS.

What is the running cost of an RO system?

RO system works on very low power and consumption is also very low, most of the RO system required only 40 W of electricity, also the cost of cartridge filter other than the defected part cost around Rs. 500 a year.

Why cartridges require replacement, can they be cleaned & refitted?

The cartridge cannot be cleaned and reuse because the sediments entered into the depth of the cartridge filter cannot be physically removed by washing or cleaning that is why replacement of the cartridge is required.

What is the life of the membrane?

In favorable condition, membrane last up to 1.5 to 2 years. Life of the membrane depends upon the water quality like TDS, chlorine content, and other impurities.

What is the Average Life of RO SYSTEM?

The good quality RO system will work for more than 10 years, with proper care and services.

What is the feed limiting condition for the RO system?

Favorably TDS less than 2000 PPM and Hardness level less than 250 PPM

What is the acceptable limit of free chlorine to avoid membrane damage?

Free chlorine is the chlorine remain in the water after killing the microbes and is added by the municipal corporation and users for the treatment of water. Free chlorine shall never exceed 0.5 ppm (parts per million) in the inlet water.

Chlorine does affect the membrane, the carbon filters protect the membrane from chlorine but if excess chlorine is present in the feed water carbon filters get exhausted quickly thereby leading to damage to the membrane.

What impurities are removed by RO?

Reverse Osmosis system removes almost all the viruses and bacteria, including heavy metals, salts, suspended solids and other harmful impurities from the water.
